FREE Janez Janša

A Triple Online Publishing Event

“The best things in life are free.” — Janez Janša

[FREE] Janez Janša is a triple on-line publishing initiative build around My Name is Janez Janša (2012), the documentary movie about names and name changes, focusing on one particular and rather unique name change that took place in 2007, when three artists officially changed their names into the name of the then Prime Minister of Slovenia, Janez Janša.

The first event in the series is the publishing of a new essay by Slovenian philosopher, cultural theorist and film critic Mladen Dolar, next on the line-up is a special guest blog written by the “No Land’s Man” and pioneer of Vuk Ćosić and finally, the FREE online release of the film.

In his essay What’s in a Name? Dolar gives us a philosophical joy ride through the name and naming as well as name change of the three Janšas.

In his blog, beside teasing our curiosity and stimulate our intellectual desire, Vuk Ćosić presents over 50 clips that never made it into the final cut of the film. His byte-sized musings covers topics such as Names, Nicknames, Pseudonyms, Artist Names, Multiple Names, Improper names, Forbidden Names, Family names, Brand Names, Name sakes and Name Changes with special cameo appearances by Jan Fabre, Ubermorgen, Eva and Franco Mattes, Mladen Dolar, Lev Kreft, Antonio Caronia, Marco Deseriis, Geoff Cox, Tatiana Bazzichelli, Catherine Soussloff, Miroslav Košuta, Julius von Bismarck, and Vuk Ćosić himself.

The series concludes with the “liberation” of the film My Name is Janez Janša just as the director envisioned it. The film that “inspires you to google your name again” is made available on-line for FREE with additional subtitles in English, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Czech and Croatian languages:

A special edition of the movie has been made for the Slovenian-speaking audience:
